A 2500-YEAR SEA LEVEL RECORD FROM PHRA THONG ISLAND, THAILAND

چکیده
Temporally changing coastline configurations and local sea-level changes pose a considerable threat to coastal communities infrastructure. However, regional (RSL) histories spanning the last 3000 years have not been widely studied in Southeast Asia, even though region shows significantly different RSL records from place (Horton et al., 2005). This period is crucial for understanding pre-industrial time. Here, we investigate record of past sea-level(s) preserved within stratigraphy beach ridge system Phra Thong Island (PTI), Thailand.

The 26th December 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami (IOT) emanated from an Mw 9.2 earthquake that generated a 1600 km-long rupture along the Sumatran Megathrust and generated tsunami waves up to 30 m high. The IOT directly impacted the Bay of Bengal and east Africa, with over 283,000 people perishing. At the time, this catastrophic event was considered unprecedented and sparked intense investigations t...
متن کاملA 1400-year terrigenous dust record on a coral island in South China Sea
We present analyses of a lacustrine sediment core (DY6) on Dongdao Island, which provides high-resolution paleoclimate records for the South China Sea (SCS). Results of element analyses indicate that the concentrations of Ti and Al in DY6 are much higher than the background on the island. Morphological characteristics of acidic insoluble particles are similar to aeolian in East China. Sr and Nd...
متن کاملA new Late Holocene sea-level record from the Mississippi Delta: evidence for a climate/sea level connection?
A detailed relative sea-level (RSL) record was constructed for the time interval 600–1600 AD, using basal peat to track sea level and containing 16 sea-level index points that capture w60 cm of RSL rise. The study area is in the Mississippi Delta where the spring tidal range is w0.47 m, the impact of ocean currents on sea-surface topography is limited, and crustal motions are well constrained. ...
متن کاملA 300 year record of environmental change from Lake Tuborg, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada
Lamination thickness measurements in sediments from Lake Tuborg, northern Ellesmere Island, Canada document an increase in high-energy hydrologic discharge events from 1865 to 1962. The timing of these events corresponds with evidence for an increase in the amount of melt on the adjacent Agassiz Ice Cap, as recorded in ice cores. There appears to have been a non-linear change in depositional en...

In the framework of collection and determination of coastal sand dune plants of S Caspian Sea in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces (N Iran), a new species of the family Poaceae,Cenchrus longispinus (Hack.) Fernald, was determined in coastline of Babolsar, Mazandaran. Cenchrus longispinus is closely resembles C. spinifex and C. echinatus. From the latter it is best distinguished by the absence of a...
